Ilulissat Glacier (Sermeq Kujalleq) was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004. Every day, millions of tonnes of ice flow from the glacier through Ilulissat Icefjord (Kangia) and into Disko Bay. The result is huge icebergs which majestically soar high above sea level. At the mouth of the ice fjord these giants are stranded, so here you have the opportunity to sail around the icebergs and admire their beauty.
The icebergs are an impressive sight in all kinds of weather. In the sunshine its the contrasts, in cloudy weather the blue shades emerge very beautifully, and in the low rays of the evening sun, the icebergs are painted a unique hue which entices visitors back to Ilulissat to experience it again.
From 21 May to 24 July, Ilulissat falls under the spell of the midnight sun. An evening boat ride in the golden glow of the midnight sun is also an incredibly special experience which you should definitely treat yourself to if visiting in summer.
